Few people will be under greater pressure in a football stadium on match day than the person who most people mostly never notice. Yet a club doctor or Head of Medical often has to deal with some of the biggest decisions in any game.

With the spotlight rightly shone on player health (both physically and mentally) today, and in the recent past, even the most innocuous of situations needs an expert opinion and skill set to make the big calls on match day. For beyond the ramifications of winning, dating or losing a football game, decisions made by the Head of Medical or Club Doctor on an average Saturday afternoon could have serious implications for the players immediate or long-term future, or even for the bottom line of a club.
